Reagan at the Folger 50th

Reagan at the Folger 50th

Festivities for Folger Shakespeare Library’s 50th anniversary included an afternoon reception in the East Room at the White House hosted by President and Mrs. Reagan. Before he spoke, the president was inducted into the Order of the Folger by Jane Weinberger, chairman of the Folger trustees, and O.B. Hardison, Jr., director of the library. As O.B. Hardison read a scroll, Mrs. Weinberger presented the president with a key to the library and a medal. The president can be seen wearing the medal, and holding the key, during his speech. In his remarks, President Reagan also refers to a touring exhibition of materials from the Folger collection, which was organized during renovations of the Folger reading rooms.
