Losing the Shakespeare Requirement

Losing the Shakespeare Requirement

The National Alumni Forum, now the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), strongly opposed the 1995 change in course requirements for English majors at Georgetown. In a study it published, the organization also found that Shakespeare requirements for English majors had been eliminated at most leading US universities—a situation it found deplorable.

As president of ACTA, Anne Neal takes a clear stand on the issues involved. To hear some of the other side of the debate, refer to Watching the Culture Wars.
